Bakayoko-Milan: Chelsea’s transfer ban changes everything
Chelsea’s transfer ban for two windows could have complications in AC Milan’s attempts to sign Tiemoue Bakayoko an a permanent deal.
Yesterday it was announced that FIFA has banned Chelsea from signing players in the next two transfer windows for breaching rules in relation to youth players. That means the English club won’t be able to buy anyone until the summer of 2020. Though Chelsea won’t be affected in their exit business this is expected to complicate the situation of Tiemoue Bakayoko.
AC Milan have the right to sign Bakayoko at the end of the season. The Rossoneri paid 5 million euros for his loan but for an additional 35 million can make his stay at San Siro permanent. If Milan decides to make this investment then Chelsea can not do anything to prevent it. However, given the inability of the London club to purchase players it may become almost impossible to request a discount on that figure. A few days ago, agent Federico Pastorello declared that Chelsea were hopping that Milan won’t exercise their option.
With Maurizio Sarri’s future already in doubt the Blues could soon change coach and the next coach may also want to focus on Bakayoko. In any case, the player has already expressed his desire to remain at Milan and expects the management duo Leonardo and Maldini to do everything in their power to buy him. Gennaro Gattuso has also said publicly that the former Monaco must be confirmed, given his great performance after a complicated start.
Tiemoue Bakayoko vs Napoli
In short, FIFA’s decision does not prevent AC Milan from signing the French midfielder but does indeed complicate negotiations with Chelsea. If the Rossoneri don’t pay the 35 million agreed for him then Bakayoko will return in England at the end of the season. The parties must also discuss personal terms as Tiemoue earns 6,5 million euros from his Chelsea contract. However if Champions League qualification is achieved this season then Bakayoko’s is going to be just a formality.
